Digital Pool Design & Planning

Marketing Initiative of the year (pool & spa)

XL Pools introduced My Pool Design and uDrew to make the swimming pool buying journey more visual and interactive. My Pool Design allows customers to see different Aqua Technics pools, colours and sizes within their own garden, while uDrew takes this further into practical site planning. Together, they bridge the gap between inspiration and reality, helping customers better understand, visualise and plan their future swimming pool.

Why this entry deserves to win

We believe this initiative deserves recognition because it changes the way we market something that has traditionally been difficult for customers to visualise.Swimming pool companies naturally use photographs of completed projects to showcase their work. While these are important, ultimately they show customers somebody else’s pool in somebody else’s garden. My Pool Design allows us to make that marketing personal.Instead of asking a customer to imagine how an Aqua Technics pool might look at their property, we can start showing them. Different models, sizes and colours can be explored within their own surroundings, making the experience more engaging and helping customers make more confident decisions. What makes the initiative particularly valuable is the addition of uDrew. The journey does not stop with an attractive visual. We can begin considering whether the idea works practically. The technology also supports rather than replaces our sales team. Customers still benefit from our experience and advice, but we now have better tools to communicate what is possible.Successful marketing should do more than attract attention. It should help a customer understand, imagine and feel confident about what they are buyi

Design information

The initiative was created around a simple problem: swimming pools can be difficult for customers to visualise before they exist. Customers often come to us having seen a pool online, in a brochure or at another property, but understanding how that same pool will look within their own garden is very different. My Pool Design gives us a much more engaging way to bridge that gap. Using images of the customer’s own garden, we can demonstrate different Aqua Technics models, sizes and colours within their actual surroundings. It makes conversations about design far more personal and gives customers greater confidence when making decisions. We then use uDrew to add another level to the process. While My Pool Design concentrates on how the finished project could look, uDrew helps us consider how it can actually work on the site. Pool positioning, plant room location, equipment and construction access can all form part of the planning process. The two systems therefore complement each other rather than doing the same job. One creates the excitement; the other begins turning that idea into a practical project.

Technical information

My Pool Design is a digital visualisation app used to show Aqua Technics swimming pools within a customer’s own garden. You can use this on site visits or customers can download the app themselves. Different pool models, sizes and colours can be demonstrated using images of the property, allowing customers to compare options visually rather than relying entirely on brochures, colour samples or photographs of previous installations. uDrew is a digital software provides the more technical planning element of the initiative. The platform has been adapted for our UK operation (originally made for the Australian market) and allows the proposed swimming pool and associated equipment to be positioned within the customer’s site. This allows our team to consider not only where the pool will sit, but practical requirements including the plant room, equipment positioning and access required for construction machinery. The information generated can then support the quotation and subsequent planning of the project. Used together, the systems cover two very different stages of the customer journey. My Pool Design provides the visual element that helps generate excitement and engagement, while uDrew begins translating that concept into a realistic installation. This gives our sales team better tools while providing customers with considerably more information before committing to their swimming pool.
