Lovibond® MD150 13in1 Photometer

Pool Product of the year

The Lovibond® MD150 13in1 brings comprehensive professional pool water testing into one compact photometer. Building on the success of the MD150 6in1, it combines 13 key parameters with high-precision optics, One-Time-Zero, IP67 protection and NFC/USB-c connectivity. Future-focused parameters including phosphate, sulphate and an extended lower pH range help operators manage water quality today while preparing for tomorrow.

Why this entry deserves to win

The MD150 13in1 deserves to win Pool Product of the Year because it addresses both the everyday realities of professional pool testing and the future direction of pool water management.Pool operators need fast, reliable measurements of essential parameters such as chlorine and pH, but increasingly they also need a deeper understanding of the factors affecting water quality, treatment efficiency and the condition of valuable pool infrastructure. The MD150 brings these requirements together in one compact handheld instrument. Its 13-parameter capability allows operators to go beyond routine testing, with parameters including phosphate and sulphate providing additional insight into issues such as algae management and the potential long-term impact of water chemistry on pool structures and components. An extended lower pH range also helps prepare operators for evolving industry guidance. At the same time, the MD150 has been designed to make professional testing easier. One-Time-Zero reduces repetitive steps throughout the working day, while NFC and USB-C connectivity simplify data transfer and reporting. IP67 protection and a rugged, rubber-protected design ensure the instrument is ready for real poolside conditions.Rather th

Design information

The MD150 13in1 was developed around the changing needs of professional pool and spa operators. The aim was to bring comprehensive water analysis into one compact handheld instrument without compromising speed, accuracy or durability. Building on the proven MD150 platform, the 13in1 extends testing beyond chlorine, pH and water balance measurements to give operators greater insight into parameters that can affect water quality, treatment efficiency and the long-term condition of pool infrastructure. Practicality was central to the design. The rugged IP67-rated housing with rubber-protected sides is suited to demanding poolside environments, while the intuitive interface and One-Time-Zero function make everyday testing easier. Connectivity through NFC and USB-c also makes it easier for operators to record, transfer and manage results digitally. The result is a photometer designed not only around current pool-water testing requirements but around how those requirements are evolving.

Technical information

The Lovibond® MD150 13in1 is a compact professional photometer offering 13 key pool and spa water parameters within one handheld instrument. Its advanced optical system is designed to provide fast, precise measurements across routine disinfection, water balance and additional parameters relevant to long-term water and asset management. Testing capability includes chlorine, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, cyanuric acid, copper, iron, aluminium, bromine, hydrogen peroxide, active oxygen, phosphate and sulphate. Additional methods include an extended lower pH range. Key measuring ranges include: chlorine up to 6 mg/L Cl₂, with high-range chlorine up to 10 mg/L; pH 6.8–8.4 plus an extended lower range of 5.2–6.8; total alkalinity 5–300 mg/L CaCO₃; calcium hardness 20–500 mg/L CaCO₃; cyanuric acid 10–200 mg/L; bromine 0.05–13.5 mg/L; copper 0–5 mg/L; iron 0–1 mg/L; aluminium 0–0.3 mg/L; hydrogen peroxide 1–50 mg/L; active oxygen 0–10 mg/L; phosphate 0–4 mg/L; and sulphate 5–100 mg/L The One-Time-Zero function remains valid for up to eight hours, reducing repetitive zeroing during busy testing schedules. The instrument is IP67 rated and features rubber-protected sides for durability in demanding poolside environments. Results can be transferred via NFC or USB-C to the AquaLX® app or Lovibond® Data Expert software, with CSV export available for reporting and record keeping. The MD150 stores the latest 100 readings with date and time information, supports firmware and method updates and allows custom methods to be created through Data Expert.
