Calacatta Marble Steam Room

Health & Wellness Project of the year

A bespoke residential steam room installation in Bridgnorth, delivered in close collaboration with the client’s architect. Finished in Calacatta marble with a domed ceiling and star lighting, the room was constructed using a fully vapourproof wedi system within an older single-skin outbuilding. Tylo steam equipment with aromatherapy and integrated audio completes a luxury wellness space, with electric underfloor heating to floor and benches for comfort.

Why this entry deserves to win

This entry deserves to win because it combines design ambition with the technical discipline required for a steam environment — delivered through close collaboration and careful detailing.Architect-led collaboration, expertly guided: We worked closely with the architect and client to evaluate multiple wellness options and land on the right solution, then delivered it to a very specific brief.Premium materials, managed properly: Calacatta marble brings a standout finish, and the project demonstrates the real-world expertise needed to guide clients through natural material selection and expectations.Technically correct steam room build: The bespoke wedi construction and vapourproof approach were essential given the single-skin outbuilding setting, helping ensure durability and performance.High-end comfort & experience: Domed ceiling with star lighting, electric underfloor heating (including benches), aromatherapy and integrated audio create a complete wellness experience — not just a functional steam room.Craft-level detailing: The machined marble transition detail solved a tricky interface cleanly and elevates the overall finish.

Design information

This residential project in Bridgnorth was created for a couple with a clear vision for a premium home wellness space. We worked closely with their architect from the outset, helping explore the practical options — including traditional sauna, infrared sauna, hammam-style concepts and steam — before the client ultimately chose a steam room as the best match for the experience they wanted to achieve. The interior was designed around Calacatta marble, chosen for its timeless look and natural variation. A key part of the process was managing expectations around a natural material: we supported the client through the selection process, including how marble is cut and laid to achieve an acceptable balance of colour and pattern while still respecting that each slab is unique. A domed ceiling with star lighting was incorporated to elevate the atmosphere and create a true “escape” at home, while the overall layout and detailing were designed to feel calm, cohesive and intentionally crafted rather than off-the-shelf.

Technical information

Steam & wellness equipment: Tylo steam room equipment (steam system) Aromatherapy integrated into the steam experience Integrated speaker/audio for a complete sensory environment Tylo glass steam room door Construction system (vapourproofing & substrate): The steam room was constructed as a bespoke, fully machined wedi system room, providing the vapourproof finish required for steam environments. The steam room was built within an older single-skin outbuilding, making the wedi system particularly important to ensure long-term performance and moisture management. Thermal comfort: Electric underfloor heating installed beneath the floor finish and within the benches to improve comfort and usability. Detailing & problem-solving: The transition from the existing old stone floor to the new marble finish presented a challenge. This was resolved by using matching marble, machined into a specific profile, creating a clean, intentional junction while maintaining the premium finish.
