The Third Space Wimbledon project utilises reclaimed retail space in the form of the old Debenhams department store. This brought a particular issue to hand, namely in that the space was never designed to accommodate a swimming pool and the structural floor slab was very thin and very flexible with up to 75mm of deflection to overcome when the pool loads were applied. To overcome the issue, Aquascapes designed and negotiated with the Landlord, a suitable system that minimised structural strengthening required, in accordance with a very lightweight and flexible pool structure. This resulted in our client achieving the inclusion of a swimming pool where a concrete pool would not be feasible, due to being too heavy. This also heavily reduced the need for structural strengthening works which improved sustainability and reduced costs.
