This 16m x 6m new-build swimming pool transformed a challenging sloping area into a spectacular family destination. New retaining walls, flint detailing and a timber igloo-style plant room complete this exceptional garden transformation.

This entry deserves to win because it demonstrates what is possible when a challenging site is turned into an exceptional piece of landscape and pool design. The project began with a steep and largely unusable area of ground, yet through careful engineering, substantial retaining structures and considered landscaping, we created a level terrace that now feels completely natural within the garden. The 16m x 6m pool is both elegant and highly functional, with beautiful Ash mosaic tiling, generous beach-style steps, a full limestone surround and a carefully considered shallow-to-deep profile. The sculptural stainless-steel slide is the standout feature, providing a genuine wow factor while remaining an integral part of the overall design rather than simply an addition. The brick and flint retaining walls, mature planting and timber igloo-style plant building ensure that the modern pool sits comfortably within its surroundings. Safety was also fundamental, with a dedicated safety cover installed for the family’s children and dogs. The brief was to transform a steep and previously unusable area of the garden into a spectacular family swimming environment. The significant change in levels required careful planning, with the ground regraded and concrete retaining walls constructed on two sides to create a level pool terrace while retaining the upper garden. Brick and flint detailing was then introduced to complement the character of the property. The 16m x 6m pool was designed with a shallow-to-deep profile, from 1.2m to 2m, with bespoke beach-style steps creating generous lounging areas on either side. The pool is fully finished in Ash mosaic tile, chosen for its textured feel and elegant appearance. Limestone paving creates a generous surrounding terrace, while a timber igloo-style building houses the plant equipment discreetly. The standout feature is the dramatic sculptural stainless-steel slide, creating a unique focal point and adding an element of fun. A safety cover was also incorporated for peace of mind. The result is a carefully considered combination of pool, architecture and landscaping that has transformed a challenging site into an exceptional outdoor space.

The new pool measures 16m x 6m and has a shallow-to-deep profile, from 1.2m at the shallow end to 2m at the deep end. The pool is fully mosaic tiled in Ash mosaic, selected for its attractive textured finish and slip-resistant feel. Bespoke concrete beach-style steps were constructed within the pool, creating generous lounging areas on both sides. Circulation is provided by a 1.5hp pump with a 30-inch filter system incorporating AFM media. Water treatment is provided by an Electro Quantum UV system, with heating supplied by a Norsup P35X/32 air source heat pump. A safety cover was installed to provide additional protection when the pool is not in use, particularly important for the family’s children and dogs. The surrounding terrace was finished in limestone paving. Due to the significant natural gradient of the site, extensive groundworks were required to create the finished level, including new concrete retaining walls to two sides to support the upper terrace. These were finished with brick and flint detailing. A bespoke timber igloo-style building was constructed to house the filtration and plant equipment, keeping the technical installation discreetly integrated into the landscape. The project was completed with a striking sculptural stainless-steel slide, creating a unique focal point and a major recreational feature.
