ENTRY DETAILS
The Alton Project
One-Piece Pool Project of the year
Despite a constrained site, the compact and well-specified Compass Classic pool achieved a clean, integrated finish by being positioned in alignment with the house. The installation presented logistical challenges: the customer had to obtain access permission from neighbouring properties for the delivery lorry, and restricted site access required all backfill material to be moved entirely by wheelbarrow.
Why this entry deserves to win
This is a winning entry because of what the installation achieved on a constrained site. Neighbouring driveways had to be formally cleared for access before delivery could take place, and once on site, restricted machine access meant backfill material was moved entirely by wheelbarrow rather than mechanically. The plant room itself was installed below the water level of the pool - a more technically demanding configuration than a standard above-level plant room. Despite these constraints, the installation was completed to the same standard as any other Compass Pools by Waterstream build, with the pool set precisely in line with the house and every technical specification met in full.
Design information
The design centres on the compact yet sophisticated Compass Classic pool, boasting a shimmering Nova Grey shell with dimensions of 3.23m in width, 6.21m in length, and a depth of 1.51m. Strategically positioned to be square with the main residence, the pool functions as a seamless extension of the architecture. Despite the inherent challenges of a constrained and narrow site, this deliberate and precise layout ensures that the final installation maintains a clean, integrated, and highly considered relationship with the property. Rather than appearing as a detached or afterthought addition, the pool feels anchored to the house's footprint, harmonising beautifully with its immediate surroundings through thoughtful spatial planning.
Technical information
Pool model: Compass Classic FB, Nova Grey shell, Comfort cover, ABS fittings, sandstone coping. Shell dimensions 3.23m width x 6.21m length x 1.51m depth. Specification: all season heat pump, standard pump, UV, FreshWater filtration system, auto dosing, automatic top-up, plumbed backwash routed to soakaway, polycarbonate solar slatted cover, two white pool lights. Installation: the pool was delivered flat by transport lorry with Hi-Ab crane unloading. Site access required the customer to obtain formal permission from neighbouring properties to block their driveways for the delivery vehicle. Excavation was rated low difficulty with the customer digging, though restricted machine access meant backfill material had to be moved into place by wheelbarrow rather than by vehicle. The plant room sits seven metres from the pool and is installed below the water level of the pool, with trench backfilling required beneath the plant room base.
