This pool deserves to win because it brings together exceptional technical performance, thoughtful design and genuine collaboration in one beautifully resolved project.Rather than imposing a standard pool on the site, we created a design that responds directly to the character of the traditional stone property and its rural surroundings. The clean geometry, Imperial Green Aquaflex finish and carefully selected natural materials give the water a rich, understated appearance that complements the architecture and landscape.Behind this elegant simplicity is a highly engineered structure. The R-Wall Ultimate ICF system provides 150mm of insulation to both sides of the reinforced concrete core, achieving an excellent U-value of 0.09 W/m²K. This substantially reduces heat loss while creating a robust and durable pool shell. Certikin circulation fittings and the discreet Ocea polycarbonate slatted cover further enhance efficiency, safety and ease of operation.The project also demonstrates the value of close collaboration. he inspiration for the pool came from its beautiful rural setting and the character of the traditional stone buildings surrounding it. Our aim was to create a contemporary pool that felt completely at home within the property, rather than appearing as a separate or overly modern addition. The simple rectangular form gives the pool a calm, timeless quality, while the restrained palette of natural stone and subtle grey-blue tones reflects the materials and colours found in the house, terraces and boundary walls. This allows the water to provide the main visual focus, bringing light, movement and colour into the garden. The result is an elegant yet practical space that complements the architecture and provides a natural setting for swimming, relaxing and entertaining. Collaboration was central to the design process. We worked closely with the client to understand how they wanted to use the pool and the wider outdoor space, then developed the design alongside the local architects and landscape team. This ensured that the pool’s position, proportions, materials and surrounding terraces were considered as part of one coherent scheme. The swimming pool shell was constructed using the R-Wall Insulated Concrete Formwork (ICF) system. The R-Wall Ultimate specification incorporates 150mm of insulation to both faces of the reinforced concrete core, achieving an impressive U-value of 0.09 W/m²K. This highly insulated construction significantly reduces heat loss through the pool walls while providing a strong, durable and thermally efficient structure. Designed as a skimmer pool which measured 11 m x 5m , the floor transitions from a shallow depth of 1.3 metres to a deep end of 2.7 metres, accommodating both relaxed family use and deeper-water swimming. The pool was finished on site with an Aquaflex membrane in Imperial Green, selected to produce the rich, natural water colour that complements the surrounding stonework and landscape. All circulation and flow fittings were supplied by Certikin, ensuring reliable hydraulic performance and a coordinated technical installation. An Ocea polycarbonate slatted cover was incorporated using a discreet letterbox-style system, allowing the cover to operate cleanly while remaining visually integrated into the pool structure. Together, these carefully selected systems combine structural integrity, excellent thermal performance, efficient operation and refined detailing—delivering a pool that is technically accomplished as well as sympathetic to its architectural setting.
