Why this entry deserves to win

This project deserves to win because it brings a customer’s long-held dream to life through thoughtful design and considered engineering. The ambition was deeply personal: to swim in an infinity-edge pool overlooking the sea on her doorstep. The finished pool makes that extraordinary setting part of the everyday experience, drawing the eye across the water towards the coastal horizon. Its strength lies in the relationship between appearance and performance. Clean lines, dark pool finishes and natural textures complement the landscape, while the R-Wall ICF construction provides insulation on both sides of the pool walls. An integrated cover system and HydroStar swim current add practical value, supporting both relaxation and exercise.More than a striking pool with a beautiful view, this is a carefully resolved response to its setting and its owner’s vision—bringing together coastal character, swimming functionality and a powerful sense of place.

Design information

The design began with the customer’s long-held dream: an infinity-edge pool that would bring the sea on her doorstep into the heart of her garden. That vision inspired a coastal retreat where the pool’s surface appears to reach towards the sea, drawing the eye out to the horizon. The coastline shaped the overall theme, with deep blue-grey pool finishes, warm timber and textured stone echoing the colours and character of the setting. Clean lines keep the sea view centre stage, while reflections of the changing sky give the water an ever-shifting mood. The result is a deeply personal space that captures the freedom and tranquillity of swimming beside the open sea.

Technical information

The pool was constructed using R-Wall insulated concrete formwork (ICF), providing insulation on both sides of the concrete pool walls. All flow fittings and plant room equipment were supplied by certikinm The installation also incorporates an Ocea cover system and a HydroStar swim current system, combining a clean pool appearance with the ability to swim against a generated current.
